Respect is given, not taken

You seem away, far off today

Yet I’m holding You herewith
Yes I’ve sinned, You’ve seen and binned
My old minds now a myth

In control of this old soul
In mercy You’ve bought us
Ne’er too late,  we long await
From detention, brought us

From the beginning there’s been sin, not new even under the sun
You only need our wills to awaken
As much as we try to set ourselves high
Respect is given, not taken

You break through noise, unbound by doors
Right up to the edge we’re driven
Some things we don’t know, not all is on show
Offence is taken, not given.

Acts 5:17-19
The Apostles Persecuted
Then the high priest and all his associates, who were members of the party of the Sadducees, were filled with jealousy. They arrested the apostles and put them in the public jail. But during the night an angel of the Lord opened the doors of the jail and brought them out.

Matthew 13:53-57
A Prophet Without Honor
When Jesus had finished these parables, he moved on from there. Coming to his hometown, he began teaching the people in their synagogue, and they were amazed. “Where did this man get this wisdom and these miraculous powers?” they asked. “Isn’t this the carpenter’s son? Isn’t his mother’s name Mary, and aren’t his brothers James, Joseph, Simon and Judas? Aren’t all his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all these things?” And they took offense at him. But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own town and in his own home.”
